Accounts and sign-in

Clerk manages Makebook sign-in. If you choose Google sign-in, it uses basic profile and email information. Google sign-in does not request access to your Gmail messages, Drive files, contacts, or calendars.

Clerk supplies account and session information. Makebook uses a stable account identifier to associate saved work with your account, and may display your name and email in the account interface. Makebook’s own account database does not store your sign-in password.

What you put into Makebook

Makebook stores the material you save or upload and the information needed to work on it. This includes ideas, notes, titles, author details, preferences, plans, manuscript text, previous versions, uploaded source files, extracted text, previews, and artwork. Progress and recovery records can also contain copies of material involved in a writing or illustration request.

Some drafts and recovery copies are stored in your browser. Cookies support sign-in and associate temporary work with a browser session. Browser copies, sign-in cookies, and server copies are separate; clearing one does not necessarily remove the others.

AI features and voice

When enabled, Makebook uses OpenAI for requested planning, writing, revision, cover or coloring artwork, and recorded-audio transcription. The material needed for the operation can be sent to OpenAI, including your instructions, selected source material, manuscript context, chapter text, book and author details, source filenames, or reference images. A hashed account identifier may accompany requests.

Preparing or estimating a request can send relevant material to OpenAI before generation starts, including when the later generation does not complete. Provider processing and retention depend on the provider’s applicable policies and settings. Removing material from Makebook does not automatically remove copies already processed by a provider.

If you use recorded-audio transcription, your recording is sent to Makebook’s server and then OpenAI when recording finishes. This also happens when a recording stops automatically. Browser voice typing is a separate option and may send audio to your browser vendor’s speech recognition service. The resulting text can become part of your idea or book when you add it. Makebook does not save the audio recording. A completed transcript is stored for up to 30 days for recovery, becomes unavailable when its configured retention period ends, and is removed by background cleanup or account erasure. Request identifiers and usage metadata may remain for service and financial records.

Uploads and downloads

Uploading a source document uses extraction and preview tools on Makebook’s server. Selecting that source for a later AI operation can send relevant content to OpenAI. Book downloads are prepared on Makebook’s server for you to save; downloading does not publish your book to a retailer or marketplace.

Support and service operation

Support messages sent to makebooksupport@gmail.com are handled through Google Gmail. When in-app messaging is available, Makebook also stores your conversation, your account and verified email address, and any book context you choose to share. In-app messages are also copied to our support Gmail mailbox. Replies sent by our support team and your email replies can appear in the same in-app conversation. Email attachments remain in Gmail; in-app messaging currently supports text. Deleting support records from Makebook does not automatically delete Gmail copies. Those copies are handled separately when you request removal of your data. Include only the information needed to explain your request.

Services that authenticate users, host Makebook, and store or recover work process relevant account, content, and technical information for those functions. Makebook and its service providers may keep request, error, usage, and service-health records to operate the service and investigate problems.

Your copies and requests

You can download the book formats offered in Makebook and the original files you upload. A book download is not a complete account-data export. Keep your own copies of important work.

Removing an uploaded source removes its files from the active source shelf. It does not automatically erase material already copied into a book, generated result, or recovery record, or copies held separately in backups or by a provider.

Makebook keeps saved books and recovery records to support continued work. Signing out, clearing browser storage, or removing a sign-in account does not automatically erase Makebook content. Full account erasure is not currently available as a self-service action.

For questions about your information or to discuss access, correction, or deletion, contact makebooksupport@gmail.com. Please do not send passwords, sign-in codes, or other unnecessary sensitive information.
